Loving, Loathing, and Lusting (July)

Hello Loves,

It’s the last day in July and , to me, this year is flying by far too fast.

Today , sugar pops, I present to you “Loving, Loathing, and Lusting” which I think is pretty self explanatory. This post is dedicated to things I am loving, loathing, and lusting after.

Let’s start off sweet shall we…

LOVING

Our son turned 5. It was the best party ever and he had a blast!! It was despicable me minion themed and if you are wondering, yes that cake was divine. We had a huge water slide and bounce house to entertain all the little minions that were running rampant. My husband and I had just as much fun as our son did flying down that slide and crashing into ice cold water. By the time we opened presents, he saw the bowling set and decided it was time to wrap things up and go inside and bowl!!

Now for beauty wise…

loving, loathing, and lusting segment 1.3 1

Khroma Beauty Honeystick in “Blackberry Honey” and Apocalips in “Stellar”. I love these two lip lacquers. The Khroma honeystick is infused with real honey so it smells and yes, it tastes like real honey. It is as smooth as butter, so don’t be put off by the honey that is in it. The Apocalips is amazingly pigmented and is long lasting, I love everything about it. Thank you again Rosie .

Avene Thermal Spring Water. It has saved me many times from these sizzling summer temperatures. I give a quick spritz to my face, arms, and legs (if wearing shorts) and I feel instantly refreshed. If you are interested in more Avene products you can read more about them in my post  “From the Beauty in Germany”

loving, loathing, and lusting segment 1.2 1 australis collage 1

Australis-Neutrals and Neons eyeshadow and eyeliner kit. This pallet is amazing and thank you Rosie for sending me such an amazing product! xo You can use the neutrals on your lids and then line your eyes in neon or be a daredevil and use the neon on your lids as well!

red top

These threads. I love the red, blue, and gold. I simply love everything about it.

OKAY, now for the not so sweet…

LOATHING… DUN DUN DUN (hopefully you got that…)

loving, loathing, and lusting segment 1.1 1

Rimmel London Stay Matte pressed powder. This didn’t work out for me like I had hoped it would. I read all the reviews and how amazing it was and I thought “I need some of that in my life…” but it definitely wasn’t what I needed. Why? Because it left my skin chalky and it didn’t really help with making my skin look matte. This is the “Translucent” color, so regardless of skin tone it shouldn’t leave your skin looking chalky. I wanted to love it, but as for now I am loathing it.

Now, what am I longing for?

LUSTING

oregon coast

I am craving and longing for the Oregon coast. It is one of my favorite places to be on earth. My husband, son, and I go once a year. Our trip is right around the corner!!

What are you loving, loathing, and lusting?

I fell in love with these shorts as soon as I saw them on the rack at JCP. When I purchased them they were on clearance for $4.99 with an extra 25% off of that. The shirt was the same price as well. This is one summer find I am extremely proud of.

Graduation is Only the Beginning

graduation 3

Me laughing like a school girl at my friend while we were waiting in line for our college graduation to begin. This was one of many gratifying moments in my life. Quite honestly there were days I didn’t think I would make it. I just kept pushing through and doing what I had to do to make it. People keep asking me “What are you going to do now that you have graduated?” I always look at them blankly and say “What am I going to do? This is only the beginning, I will never be done educating myself”. I love to learn because I feel as though learning something new feeds not only my mind but my soul. I still have to get my Bachelor’s and my Master’s and until July 13, 2013 that was but a dream. Now I see getting them as an attainable goals. When you are at the starting line you can’t see the finish line but you can envision it. However, once you get a glimpse of that finish line you push yourself and wonder what more you could do after you cross it. Getting my associates degree helped me realize that regardless of what goes on (at times I had a lot going on) I can do it and as Rob Dydrek says “You have to make your own luck”. From going to school and meeting new people countless doors and opportunities have opened up for me and I am forever grateful for that. So my friends, this is only the beginning of endless possibilities…

graduation

At this point in time, my feet were numb because it was so cold. My hubby insisted I take a picture with my diploma and that I did.

What accomplishments have been gratifying for you?

NYX HD Finishing Powder vs. Makeup Forever HD Microfinishing Powder

About 6 months ago I received a sample size of Makeup Forever’s HD Microfinish Powder and it quickly became an item I used everyday. Last week, to my disappointment, I noticed there was hardly any powder left in the jar. I thought to myself “No big deal, I will swing by Sephora and pick some up” right?!?! WRONG!!! They wanted $34 for 0.3 oz jar and $16 for the 0.17 oz jar. To me, that is a lot of money for a finishing powder. Don’t get me wrong, I splurge on certain products and all though I consider this one of my “holy grail products” the price is steep. It came down to the fact that I didn’t want to splurge on it and I don’t feel like a silica mineral powder should be that pricey.

So I became a beauty detective, and I found NYX HD Finishing Powder which is the EXACT same product (with very similar packaging) at a more than reasonable price.

NYX HD Powder

NYX Finishing Powder cost $10

The packaging is almost identical. When I found this I had to double take because of how similar they are. The NYX jar has a bit more product in it than the sample size of MUF does and the price is reasonable.

If you are concerned about the ingredients, have no fear!!! Both products contain 100% Silica Mineral Powder. NYX does offer this powder in different colors to match your skin tone but I just picked up the transparent one.

NYX hd powder 2 NYX hd powder 3

NYX hd powder 4NYX hd powder 6

I recommend this product not only because of the low price but because of the quality as well. NYX has always been good at offering quality items at low prices. As I acquire more items to my beauty arsenal I realized instantly that it takes a lot of money to invest in quality makeup products. I am learning that the brands that have been dubbed “drugstore brands” create quality products and that sometimes they may even be better.

If you are interested in purchasing NYX Finishing Powder, you can find it here .

Have you found any “high end products” at a more reasonable price? If so, what did you find?

Tea Time-50’s Style

50's style board

Vintage clothing leaves me feeling nostalgic. There will always be something captivating to me when it comes to vintage clothing. I create a lot of Polyvore style inspiration boards and I felt this dress would be perfect.

Why I used this as inpiration:

  • The design. I love how it is form fitting.
  • Normally not one to like polka dots, but I really love the polka dot pattern on this dress.
  • I like how it is not just purely polka dots and it is broken up with the all black section of material on the torso and the black collar. Also there are black buttons on the front of the dress.
  • If I were to own this dress, I feel it would be versatile. You can wear it with heels or flats or you can pair different colors to it to add a pop of color. During the winter months you can add a cardigan and it would still look nice.
  • Perfect date night dress

I think this dress would be great accessorized with red heels (cause they add a certain appeal to an outfit), pearl necklace and earrings, white clutch, and some red polish. Also, even though I am not fond of polka dots on everything the pattern is trending right now. It hasn’t gone out of style FOR YEARS so there is some appeal to it. To me, it just depends on the article of clothing and how big the polka dots are.

For my makeup and hair I would go total pin-up girl!!!

If you are interested in this dress, you can find it here and if you are just interested in looking around the website check out the Hip Hop 50’s Shop .

Do you like vintage clothing? If so, what time period is your favorite?

How do you feel about polka dots?
