Flats Handwashing Challenge – Why am I participating?

Every child, regardless of socioeconomic status, deserves to have clean diapers.

Awhile ago, I had touched on taking the blog in a new direction and sharing more areas of my life with you. That starts, right now!!

J is 6 months old and we started using cloth diapers on him when he was about 4 weeks old. At first, I must admit, I was intimidated with all the options. However, I joined different Facebook groups and found other helpful mamas who were willing to share there advice and experiences. Our diaper collection slowly started growing until we had a little bit of everything. Or so I thought.

I had yet to try flat diapers. I had heard plenty of amazing things about flat diapers. When Dirty Diaper Laundry blogged about the Handwashing Flats Challenge, I knew I had to join for a few reasons.

1) Every child deserves to have a clean diaper. There are families who are unable to afford disposable diapers. Since they cannot afford them, they reuse them. No child should ever have to experience that and no parent should ever have to choose between food, bills, or diapers. You can read about families reusing disposable diapers Here

2) I have been wanting to simplify my son’s diaper stash. My son has a lot of diapers. I like the simplicity of flat diapers. It is so easy to buy all the diapers and try them all but I am learning simple is better. I was wasting too much time trying to find “the next best thing” when what I already had worked for him.

3) You can afford to cloth diaper, even on a minimal budget. I was able to pick up a set of 4 flour sack towels (version of flats) for $3.99. You can also cloth diaper for free using old t-shirts and even receiving blankets.

I hope that you are looking forward to this week as much as me. I want to be able to share this with you and inspire you to give cloth a try or at least teach you something new!

We Have Our Heading

I want to go in a new direction…

I want to take the blog in a new direction. I have a lot of stuff I want to share with each of you and I don’t want to limit myself to only makeup and clothing. I cook, a lot, I have two kids, I have other interests…on and on. I want write about what truly inspires me or what I am interested in at that moment. I am not always inspired to write about makeup or clothing because some days I don’t even get the chance to do my makeup or put together an outfit I would want to post on the blog.

I would like to share other pieces of my life with you. I feel I am limiting myself if I only stick to beauty and clothing.

I hope you join me on this new journey. I have a feeling it will be great!

Power of Love {Pacifica Lipstick Review}

In tough times, we often turn to lipstick to lift our spirits. Lipstick is one luxury item women have continued to use during the lowest points in our economy.

It has been a long time since I have done a review or blogged. I miss writing and I miss you.

Let’s dive in head first shall we?!

The other day the baby and I were wandering around Target in pursuit of more things we don’t need. We found ourselves in the makeup aisles and I tend to lean more towards natural or vegan makeup products now. I was checking out the Pacifica section and I noticed they had a few lipsticks. If you have been following my blog for awhile you may remember me reviewing a few Pacifica items. Some have worked for me and some have not. There makeup and fragrances are always wonderful!

I picked up a lipstick from Pacifica’s “Power of Love” collection that is sold exclusively at Target. Target has started a campaign called “Made to Matter” and Pacifica was chosen to be a part of it. The campaign is an effort to provide products that are made from simple and natural ingredients that are ultimately better for you.

The packaging is simple and beautiful. Even though only three colors are offered for this campaign I believe the three colors are versatile enough to be worn by anyone.

I was not only drawn to this lipstick due to the packaging. I wanted to get it because for every lipstick that is bought one is given to a woman in need. Now I know a lot of you may wonder, “Well, how is that really helping?”. Let me tell you, it will make a huge difference to a woman that is living in a woman’s shelter trying to get back on her feet. I volunteer at a local woman’s shelter from time to time, and more often then not, the women arrive with nothing. They are leaving abusive environments and wanting to make a better life for themselves and their children. They can’t stay at the shelter forever and are expected to find a job. A simple tube of lipstick can boost their confidence and allow them to show the confidence at job interviews and in other interactions. I know some of you may roll your eyes at that but self esteem and confidence are HUGE especially when it has been broken and torn from you.

The color I chose is called “Super Love” and it is a rich red color.

I L-O-V-E this color. It is such a beautiful red!

This lipstick is amazing! Not only is the color gorgeous but the way it wears is just as wonderful.

Why I love it?

  • It glides on smoothly
  • Is nourishing
  • Doesn’t feather
  • Color quality is high and long lasting
  • My lips do not feel dry

I have found that most lipsticks, for me, are drying. Not only are they drying but the color feathers after awhile as well. Feathering is when the color runs into the creases of your lips. It’s not a good look. I did not experience any of that with the Pacifica lipstick.

I wore this lipstick around all day and used only one application. I applied it at 8 a.m. and then took the below picture after dinner at 7 p.m.. Being a busy mom and student I don’t really have time to stop and reapply my makeup. I was surprised to see that the color lasted all day and as did the nourishing effects of the shea butter, jojoba, and coconut oil that are in it.

After one application being worn all day.

As you can see, the sheen faded but the color only faded slightly and my lips were left with a nice subtle red color.

I must say I am a fan of this lipstick. I know for some that the color fading may be an issue, but for me, it isn’t. I will be purchasing the other two colors from the Power of Love collection at Target. Pacifica does make other lipsticks and they can be found on their website and at retailers that carry their line of products.

I hope to bring you regular blog posts in the future. However, adjusting to life with two kids and maintaining a household is an adventure with in itself. Until next time, stay classy!!!

What is your favorite lipstick? Is it nourishing?

Finding My Groove…

As a parent, I don’t think you ever really find a “groove”. I think you just take each moment as it comes…

my boys

For the past year or so, my life has been a whirl wind. A lot has happened and I am more than grateful to be where I am today. I have known for quite some time that I needed a break from all the excess. I needed a break so that I could focus on myself. Sounds selfish right?

If you aren’t taking care of yourself, you are no good to anyone around you. In all honesty, I have been struggling mentally and emotionally since my dad’s accident. That event completely changed my life. Do you think I took time off from school and other obligations to process things?

No, I didn’t.

I just kept on going because if I stopped I feared I would fall apart. However, what I didn’t realize then, I needed to just stop and slow down and just be. Everything else was secondary. Shortly after my father’s accident we found out we were expecting another child. At six weeks I had a miscarriage. I went to a dark place in which I never want to revisit and I hope I never have to. Do you think I stopped to process things then?

No, I didn’t.

I kept on pressing on because that’s what I knew. Again, I feared I would fall apart. Since then there have been a lot of hiccups, celebrations, beauty,  and the life changing event of our second son being born.

Finally, I am stopping to process and be present in each moment. I have let go of things that I once thought important and necessary. I am learning that I am just fine without them, better off actually, and they will still be there when I am done reveling in my life. I choose to be happy and take things as they come instead of trying to strategically plan out everything. I am choosing to take care of myself so I can be the best mama and wife that I can be. I wasn’t happy with myself for quite some time because I was focused on everything but myself.

I am slowly finding my way again and learning to take things as they come.

How have you been? How is life?

Happy New Year

I hope that each of you are having a wonderful start to the new year. Can you believe how quickly time has flown? Always remember that time is irreplaceable which means it needs to be spent wisely and with those you love!

Our newest addition arrived in October…

He and his brother make my heart beat!!

Adjusting to life with two littles has been interesting and most days I feel like I am winging it, but, it’s been a lot of fun!!

How is your new year so far? Do you make resolutions?

I hope to blog more frequently and I am going to change up the content a bit as well. Thanks for sticking with me even while I was MIA.

Where is Etta?

My computer decided that it needed a vacation…a really long one. Writing a blog post from my phone doesn’t give me the same feeling as sitting down with my computer typing one up. Plus, the screen isn’t very accommodating when it comes to editing and such.

Anyways, yes, my computer took a vacation meaning it got viruses from somewhere and was just so slow.

What have I been up to?

I have been tending to my mama/ wife/ student duties! Preparing for bambino #2 and getting my son back into the swing of school have been my main focuses. I started back to school last week and I was apprehensive about starting because I am about to pop at any point but I am so glad I did. I am not lying when I say I love school. I love school because I love learning.

I mean, do you still even wear makeup?

Yes, I still wear makeup. I still take forever to get ready and I love putting on makeup now as much as I did before. Like I said, not having a computer messed up my flow.

I just wanted to check in with ya’ll. Tell me, how are you?

Umm…I think I was 30-something weeks here 😉 (Pregnancy Brain is a real thing)
