The Art of Applying Makeup

true

Don’t get discouraged if you don’t look like the women on YouTube or Instagram. They won’t tell you how many times they had to practice a look before they posted it. We all start somewhere. Watch and practice. It will all start coming together.

I think cut creases look amazing and I want to learn how to do them. If you know of any good YouTube tutorials please enlighten me to them!

Coastal Scents 120 Palette Five: Is it worth it?

Affordable, but is it even worth the low investment?

I bought the Coastal Scents 120 palette earlier this year. I was excited about this palette because I got 120 shimmer and matte colors for under $20. I can’t remember exactly how much I paid for it but I know I didn’t pay any more than $20 for it. Coastal Scents is always having a sell on their products, you just have to watch out for them and get them while they are on sale!

120 palette 3

There are five 120 palettes offered by Coastal Scents and each palette has a different variety of colors. I chose five because it had a good mix of neutrals and neons. Some days I like to wear bright looks and other days I like to tone it down.

The palette obviously has a nice range of colors and who doesn’t love a mix of shimmer and matte shadows?

Love:

  • Matte and shimmer together
  • I have choices
  • I can mix colors
  • The palette itself is compact enough to carry around in a bag
  • It is affordable
  • Shipping was fast

Loathe:

  • The matte colors have no pigmentation at all. Don’t believe me?

120 palette 2

I really thought it would only be a few of the matte colors that didn’t have pigmentation but all of them have either no pigmentation or the pigment is very visible. I even tried using primer and eyeshadow base and it didn’t make a difference in how well it showed up on my skin.

30 of the colors in the palette are matte and the rest are a satiny shimmer. Do I think it’s worth the investment?

Quality over quantity!! If I invest any amount of money into something I expect to get what is in the product description. The shimmer colors were rich with pigment but the matte colors are clearly lacking. My suggestion is to save your money. I don’t like spending money on something that doesn’t deliver all of what it is described to be. I will still use the shimmer colors but I can’t get the matte colors to show up if my life depended on it. I am not sure if it is my skin tone or if it is just the eyeshadow itself. I have another matte palette that I love (Stila “In the Know” palette) and all of the colors show up on my skin. If I do order from Coastal Scents in the future I will stay clear of their matte colors.

Curls, Red Lips, and Where Have I been?

Good Morning Beauties wherever you are! It is so nice to be back on the blogsphere. There were things going on in my life that caused me to put my blog on the back burner. When I write a post I like to put thought and energy into it. Simply, I don’t like doing a half ass job on anything that has my name attached to it.

The weather if finally warming up here in the Evergreen State and the burn of the sun could not be anymore welcomed!

DSCN3932 (2)

I took this picture on Monday and that is the first day in awhile that I have done a full face of makeup. I also tried a new method of curling my hair and when I took it out in the morning I thought “What the hell have I done?” and then I fell in love with it. It takes me awhile to get use to even the simplest of hair changes.

Eyes: I used Coastal Scents 120 Palette #5. Let me say this, I was not too impressed with the color pay off. Even after using NYX eyeshadow base the peach color was still very subtle. I have noticed that the colors from the palette either have great color pay off or it is so subtle even after slathering it on.

Lips: I used Jordana’s Easyliner for lips in “Sedona Red” and Wet n Wild’s lipstick in Cherry Picking. Believe me when I tell you that Wet n Wild lipsticks have great pigment! I think they range anywhere from 69 cents (on sale) to $1 and some change.

Brows: Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade in Ebony. I L-O-V-E the pomade. Gives me amazing brows and I don’t have to worry about smudging or fading. My friend Amy of Llewsoba has an amazing review of the pomade up on her blog. I feel like the pomade has been reviewed a lot and her review is in depth with a lot of information and honestly, the best one I have seen. I may be bias because she is a blogging bestie of mine 😉 but she is pretty amazing!!

So, alas, the main reason as to why I have been M.I.A………

Natural Hair Love : Trusty Twist Out

Good things don’t happen over night, they take time…

I haven’t been wearing my natural hair for that long but before I started wearing my hair out, I scoured the internet for styles and hair care tips. I saw all these flawless styles and thought it was going to be  a piece of cake, right? WRONG!! Why was I wrong? Everyone is different and that means EVERYONE IS DIFFERENT. What works for one person may not work for me the way they did it, so I end up having to modify it to fit my needs. And let’s be honest here, YouTube leads you to believe everything is possible. My friend Amy, from Llewsoba, and I were talking about how before people film a tutorial they never tell you how many times they had to try it before they dub it their “first try”.

So in all honesty, I have attempted many twist outs before and have never been fully confident with the results. That is until I added two new things to my hair regimen.

Before I show you the amazing twist out, allow me to share with you my bloopers.

twist out #1

To me, this wasn’t terribly bad but it wasn’t the result I was looking for. This was my first twist out ever and progressively the results became better and better.

25

This was about a week after that one and as you can see the twist out is a bit more defined. The difference? I did the twist out on damp, nearly dry hair using As I am Twist Defining Cream.

acv hair 3

Even more definition I did smaller twists this time and I still used the As I am Twist Out Defining Cream.

And then…

twist out 317 smaller pic

THIS TWIST OUT GLORY HAPPENED!! When I took them out I said “Ahhh…success!” Bounce + Definition = Success in my book.

I added two new products to my regimen and I didn’t pull apart the twists. I only unraveled them because my hair becomes much to frizzy when I start pulling them apart. Plus, I prefer the more defined look.

authenticality co

You can find both of these at Authenticality Company and they have more natural and organic (yes, they really are natural and organic) hair and body products to choose from.

On the left is the 317 Total Moisture styling butter and on the right is Head to Toe Gorgeous conditioning hair and body butter. I can honestly say that both of these products have changed my hair for the better. My hair is frizzy and these two products have helped reduce the amount of frizz that occurs.

Remember, keep trying. Just because you don’t get the same results as someone else doesn’t mean that there isn’t something out there that works for you. And the first time isn’t always going to bring amazing results!

Have you repeatedly tried a style on your hair and got better results over time?

Electric Blue

The pop of color on the lower lash line is my new favorite thing.

stila and australis 3

I used two palettes to get this look.

Stila’s In the Know palette

stila palette

I used the orange color from this palette called “Fire” and “Clay” as the base color. Stila’s  In the Know palette is a great matte palette if you are on the hunt for one.

And,

Australis’s Neons and Neutrals palette

australis collage

I used the electric blue color from the neon colors.

Other items used:

  • Rimmel’s pop lash mascara in purple
  • Maybelline’s big eyes  mascara in black (as the base)
  • NYX creme blush in orange
  • Anastasia’s dip brow pomade in ebony
  • Erzulie Cosmetics liquid mineral foundation in medium tan, Hekate lipstick, and Megastar goddess glaze

How do you feel about the pop of color on the lower lash line?

Marilyn Meets Johnny

The prettiest bras on the planet…

Awhile ago I got into touch with the designer of Marilyn Meets Johnny. Sophie, who is the designer, started making bras 2 years ago after going to a Pussy Cat Dolls concert. Before she had a successful business, she was making these gorgeous bras for the girls at her work. Sophie decided that she was going to put one on Ebay and it sold right away. Within 2 months, she had a full order book and she quit her full time job to make bras full time and ship them to ladies all over the world. Sophie started this business with only $40. Her, and the two other ladies she works with, live in Liverpool, UK.  Real Swarovski crystals or DMC mirror glass pieces are used and the bras covered in sequins are hand sewn.

These bras are amazing and one of a kind. Sophie has had offers to have everything made in China but she has declined because she wants her customers to be able to choose their own design and to keep a reasonable price tag on items. The sizes she has for bras are 30A – 42G.  She can bling anything!!

Bras are not the only things that are are blinged out by Marilyn Meets Johnny. They have a full selection of items including gloves, masks, high waist spanks, briefs, thongs, g-strings, heels, and the list goes on.

When Marilyn Meets Johnny approached me, to say I was excited to be on board is a complete understatement. I mean, c’mon, who doesn’t want a gorgeous sparkling bra?

I was instantly drawn to the Rhianna Carnival Bra collection. I got the Rhianna crystal bralet. From the name, you can tell this collection is inspired by Rhianna herself!!

Like I said, the most gorgeous bras on the planet! No matter where you are, one can be shipped to you. Marilyn Meets Johnny ships worldwide.

I really like these bras because they can be fashioned in so many different ways. You can wear it alone for some extreme fun or style it like I have with high waisted shorts and a button up sleeveless shirt over it. Spring and the dead heat of summer cannot come fast enough. I am just waiting to show this bra off and not freeze.
