Desert Wind

Stila’s  “in the know” palette is one of my favorites…

stila palette for look

Today, I wanted to show you a simple 4 step look.

stila collage numbered

Before you start, prime your lid with your favorite primer. Mine currently is NYX primer.

1) Cover eyelid using Desert

2) Put driftwood onto crease and blend

3) Apply 2-3 coats of mascara. I used NYX wonder pencil in medium on my water line. To highlight my brow bone I used the color wind.

4) Apply mascara to bottom lashes if desired.

stila look 7 done

You, my darling, are done!!! For my lips, I went with a nude lip and I used NYX rouge in orange.

I didn’t want to use any eyeliner because I wanted a very simple look.

Remember to get a look, you do not have to use the same products. You can use similar products to get this look as well!!

Pat McGrath is my makeup artist idol…

I was flipping through Glamour’s October magazine and they had an interview with Pat McGrath, who is an amazing makeup artist. She did the makeup for Dolce and Gabbana’s runway models. The looks were elegant, eye-catching, and completely inspirational.

See what I mean? I absolutely love these looks!!!!!! (Hopefully the exclamation marks help express my excitement)

So, I attempted to re-create this look for myself:

glamour inspired makeup look two

The items I used were not D&G.

Face: NYX HD Fninishing Powder, bareMinerals foundation N40, Fergie collection shimmer in rose golden goddess, and star crushed mineral’s mauve-o-lous blusher

Eyes: Starlooks obsidian color eyeliner, NYX liquid eyeliner, Fergie cocoa riche creme eyeliner (lower lash line), NYX wonder pencil in medium, star crushed minerals golden peach all over lid to brow bone, and than olive pink in crease.

Lips: Cailyn cosmetics tinted lip balm in big apple and khroma beauty honey stick in “in the buff”.

Which makeup artist inspires you?

Nude Lips-Part Two {Nude Lips for a Woman of Color}

Sometimes, it is better to have more than one option…

Last Sunday, I wrote a post about finding my perfect nude lip and it happens to be my most popular post. I hope that it has helped someone, or even a few of you, on the hunt for your perfect nude lip shade!

Now, I must say, it seems as though the nude lip phenomenon is more accommodating to people who have fairer skin (not to say a fair skinned person has never struggled finding their perfect shade).  On my quest I found the shades for my skin were either too light or too dark. I am here to tell you, there are options out there for you (dark or light) but you just have to experiment and see what works for you.

I wanted to share with you another great nude lip combo I have found…well, I actually created this one.

nude lips part two 2 items

nude lip part two rimmel 1

The Khroma Beauty duo is part of the “Au Naturel” set I talked about in my first nude lip post .

The matte lipstick is from Kate for Rimmel can be purchased at Walmart for $3.97

The flower beauty lip gloss is from Walmart as well and cost $6.98

If you don’t want to invest in the au naturel set but like the Kate lipstick and the flower lip gloss, buy a lip liner that matches your natural lip line.

Okay, so what does this combo look like?

Amazing would be the correct term.

For this look I lined my lips using the Khorma “In the Buff” lip liner and I than put the Kate lipstick on.

Here, I added the flower beauty lip gloss on top of the lipstick and liner.

In The Buff {Nude Lips for a Woman of Color}

I love nude lips but I had a hard time finding a shade that was my “true” nude lip.

Nude lips have become a popular trend. I set out a few months ago (yes, I said a few months ago) to find a nude lipstick that I could call my very own. It was a little bit harder than just going straight to the lipstick section of brand and picking out my color because for starters I HAD NO IDEA AS TO WHAT MY NUDE LIP SHADE WAS OR WHAT CLASSIFIED AS A NUDE LIP.

I see these women strutting around with their sexy nude lips and, quite honestly, I wanted and needed some of that action.

What is a nude lip?

The whole idea of a nude lipstick is to simply enhance your lips without being dramatic. It should be as close as possible to your natural skin tone.

The other day I was on YouTube looking up makeup tips (I always learn something new). I stumbled across Wayne’s channel, who is better known as the “gossmakeupartist”. Just so you know, he is totally amazing!! His tips are so simple and can benefit anyone and everyone. In all honesty, I was shocked that I didn’t find him any sooner than I did.

He has a video where he reviews some Khroma beauty products. If you are not familiar with Khorma beauty, it is a line of cosmetics created by Khloe, Kim, and Kourtney Kardashian. He goes through quite a few of the products during the video and towards the end he pulls out this lipstick/lip liner duo called “In the Buff” and swatches it and suggests that it would be a good nude lip set for a woman of color. My ears perked up “Did he just say a good nude lip set for a woman of color?!” I took note and sped down to my local Ulta. Ulta and Fred Meyer are the only two places that I know of (in my town) that sale Khroma Beauty Products.

I get there and I find…

khroma beauty 2

khroma beauty 5

It is a nude lip set that includes a lip liner, lip gloss, and lipstick. It cost me $14.99 at Ulta and when I was at Fred Meyer I noticed they also sell it for $14.99.

After speeding down to Ulta to buy this, it took me 20 minutes to decide if it was worth it or not. I was worried that it would just be another crappy nude color that would either be way to light or way to dark. I went against my doubts and bought it.

I was amazed…

First off, look at this swatch and how the colors match my skin tone…

khroma beauty 6.1

Finally, the ultimate test! How does it look on my lips?!

nude lips 2

I think the lip liner, lipstick, and gloss compliment my skin well. The lipstick is a dead on match to my skin tone and the lip liner matches my natural lip line perfectly. The gloss just adds some glitz and shimmer!

  • The color is a perfect match, I love it.
  • The lipstick smells like chocolate and the honey stick has a strong honey smell to it.
  • Affordable for the amount of product you get. One honey stick alone costs $8.99.
  • It comes in three different nude options, find them here.

  • You cannot buy just the honey stick or the lip liner/lipstick duo in the “In the Buff” color. They only come together in the Au Natural lip set.

Please note: If you do not like honey or the smell of honey, I would avoid the honey sticks because the smell is strong and they taste like honey.

Thank you to Wayne for suggesting these items!! Trust me ladies and gents when I say you can learn a lot from a 5 minute YouTube video. Check out his channel for yourself

Have you found your nude lip color yet? If so, give me the deets (brand and color)!!

Loving, Loathing, and Lusting (July)

Hello Loves,

It’s the last day in July and , to me, this year is flying by far too fast.

Today , sugar pops, I present to you “Loving, Loathing, and Lusting” which I think is pretty self explanatory. This post is dedicated to things I am loving, loathing, and lusting after.

Let’s start off sweet shall we…

Our son turned 5. It was the best party ever and he had a blast!! It was despicable me minion themed and if you are wondering, yes that cake was divine. We had a huge water slide and bounce house to entertain all the little minions that were running rampant. My husband and I had just as much fun as our son did flying down that slide and crashing into ice cold water. By the time we opened presents, he saw the bowling set and decided it was time to wrap things up and go inside and bowl!!

Now for beauty wise…

loving, loathing, and lusting segment 1.3 1

Khroma Beauty Honeystick in “Blackberry Honey” and Apocalips in “Stellar”. I love these two lip lacquers. The Khroma honeystick is infused with real honey so it smells and yes, it tastes like real honey. It is as smooth as butter, so don’t be put off by the honey that is in it. The Apocalips is amazingly pigmented and is long lasting, I love everything about it. Thank you again Rosie .

Avene Thermal Spring Water. It has saved me many times from these sizzling summer temperatures. I give a quick spritz to my face, arms, and legs (if wearing shorts) and I feel instantly refreshed. If you are interested in more Avene products you can read more about them in my post  “From the Beauty in Germany”

Australis-Neutrals and Neons eyeshadow and eyeliner kit. This pallet is amazing and thank you Rosie for sending me such an amazing product! xo You can use the neutrals on your lids and then line your eyes in neon or be a daredevil and use the neon on your lids as well!

red top

These threads. I love the red, blue, and gold. I simply love everything about it.

OKAY, now for the not so sweet…

LOATHING… DUN DUN DUN (hopefully you got that…)

loving, loathing, and lusting segment 1.1 1

Rimmel London Stay Matte pressed powder. This didn’t work out for me like I had hoped it would. I read all the reviews and how amazing it was and I thought “I need some of that in my life…” but it definitely wasn’t what I needed. Why? Because it left my skin chalky and it didn’t really help with making my skin look matte. This is the “Translucent” color, so regardless of skin tone it shouldn’t leave your skin looking chalky. I wanted to love it, but as for now I am loathing it.

Now, what am I longing for?

oregon coast

I am craving and longing for the Oregon coast. It is one of my favorite places to be on earth. My husband, son, and I go once a year. Our trip is right around the corner!!

What are you loving, loathing, and lusting?
